Parasite Prevention

Parasite prevention is another aspect of good preventative care. The 4 major parasite groups we are concerned with in companion animals are intestinal worms, fleas, ticks and heartworm.

Intestinal worms most commonly cause diarrhea or other digestive issues. They can also be of human health concern.

Heartworm is a serious disease that can cause severe illness or even death based on the impact on the heart and lungs.

Fleas are the number one cause of allergies in dogs. Year round prevention is key in a tropical climate like Maui.

Ticks spread a number of dangerous diseases that not only can impact our beloved pets, but us as well.

We carry a full spectrum of flea and tick preventatives, heart worm prevention and dewormers. Inquire to see what preventatives best fit your pet’s lifestyle.

Wellness Programs

Discounted puppy/kitten wellness programs for multiple exams, immunizations, parasite control, and heart worm prevention.

Annual wellness programs for exam, immunizations, stool flotation, and yearly heartworm blood testing.

Geriatric wellness programs associated with advancing age. These programs include exam, blood chemistry, organ function tests, advice and medications for degenerating joint disease and various body systems that are most affected by the aging process.

These programs or screenings will provide us with information about your pet’s health which will allow us to provide the care required to improve the length and quality of your pet’s life.

Surgical

Dr. Leaper has vast experience in soft tissue surgery:

  • Spays/neuters
  • Intestinal obstructions
  • Bladder stones
  • Urethral obstructions (male cats)
  • Mass/Tumor removals (internal and external)
  • Wound Repairs
  • Minor orthopedic procedures

Endoscopy

With our on-island specialist, Dr. Cynthia Zikes, we are able to offer a wide variety of endoscopic procedures using state of the art Storz equipment:

  • Foreign body retrieval from the stomach
  • Upper and lower GI studies
  • Stomach and intestinal biopsies

All at the comforts at Kihei Veterinary Clinic, without any surgical recovery and assisted by our qualified staff.

Anesthesia

We use Sevoflurane/Isoflurane gas anesthesia and alternative injectable anesthetic agents depending upon your pet’s procedures.

Every animal requiring anesthesia has different risk potentials, therefore every anesthetic program used is tailored to your particular pet’s needs.

All patients are monitoring intensely throughout each procedure. A safe and smooth anesthesia is our top priority.

Equipment monitoring of EKG, body temperature, blood gas O2 and CO2 levels, and blood pressure is used during all anesthetic procedures.

Blood work and IV fluids are always recommended and even required in some cases to ensure the safest anesthesia possible.

Digital Radiology

Pets requiring highest quality X-rays are seconds away.

Our Vet-Tec digital X-ray machine uses safe, low radiation exposures with remarkable detail. This digital medical solution solves wasteful toxic product usages. Developers, chemicals, and heavy-metal film fixer solutions are now history story from days past. This X-ray process is environmentally friendly for our islands.

Immediate digital results are viewable within seconds.

Digital format allows easy transfer for interpretation by our Board Certified Radiologists, Bay Area Veterinary Imaging.

The highest detail radiography imagery assures us the most accurate results.

We can archive your radiography as .jpg files digitally to CD-rom by request.

Ultrasound

We have access to boarded Internal Medicine specialist, Dr. Cynthia Zikes, with state of the art ultrasound equipment. She is able to perform comprehensive abdominal and cardiac (echocardiographic) ultrasounds.

All performed onsite at KVC, where you and your pet are most comfortable

Laboratory

Highest quality, on-site Heska blood chemistry equipment for quick and reliable diagnostic blood testing, stool analysis and heartworm testing.

Antech send-out testing for complex tests, pathology, histopathology, cytology,and/or biopsy tissue diagnostics.

Use of these diagnostics is important in tumor/cancer tissue margins and treatments following surgical removal.

Pharmacy

We have a full pharmacy with the convenience of rapid one-stop prescription and dispensing of medications.

We carry heartworm, flea and tick products, prescription diets, shampoos dispensed with proper advice for medical use at home.

All products, whether over-the-counter or pharmacy, come with proper advice as to usage.

If we cannot provide the medication onsite we have a trusted online pharmacy, along with multiple trusted local pharmacies to ensure your pet get the medication they need, at the proper dosage from a trusted partner and in a timely manner.

Dentistry

Dental care is a vital part of the health of your pet! Starting from the puppy/kitten stage with at-home brushing and proper diet is just the beginning.

We recommend a routine Scale & Polish for tartar removal and a thorough cleaning. This is done safely under anesthesia by one of our trained technicians with the supervision of the doctor. During this procedure we can do a full examination of the teeth and gums.

Untreated dental problems can have an effect on other organs in your pet.

We are proud to offer IM3 fiber optic dental equipment, state of the art digital dental radiographs, ultrasonic prophylaxis, with the most advanced equipment for teeth cleaning, drilling and polishing needs.

Should your pets dental condition warrant surgical tooth extractions, we use the least invasive methods.

Integrative Medicine

In addition to traditional western medicine, Dr. Jenny Li Hellsen, also offers acupuncture, cold laser therapy, nutritional advice and Chinese herbal medicines. We believe that medicine is not one size fits all, having these alternative therapies allows more options to treat your pets.
